  • Thinkfinity - Searchable site with lesson plans for library or information skills.
  • Framework for 21st Century Learning - Curriculum and lesson plans to prepare students for the 21st century. This site is by AASL, educational foundations, and several corporations.
  • S. O. S. for Information Literacy - A searchable site with library skills and information literacy lesson plans for grades K - 12.
  • Library Media Lesson Plans - For all grades from the Utah Education Network.
  • AASL Standards for the 21st Century Learner Lesson Plan Database - A new (August, 2011) resource for school librarians. It is rather limited in content. Maybe you could submit your own lesson plans to the database.
  • Elementary Library Routines - This is a place for elementary librarians to share ideas for curriculum and library management.
  • Scholastic's Lesson Plans & Reproducibles - Lesson plans for grades K - 12. Many of these are internet based. Check out the language arts section for research skills lessons.
  • Information Problem Solving Models - Research units for grades 1 - 12 from the Baltimore County Public Schools. These are related to many areas of the curriculum. Also note the useful Research and Investigation Guide. The lesson plans and guides are found through using the menu at the top or on the left side of the page.
  • Lessons from the Library - Five K - 8 library lesson plans for teachers from Education World plus links to other lesson sites. The lesson called Save the Library has students defend the library from budget cuts or closure.
  • Read Write Think - Lesson plans for all grade levels. These lessons are designed to promote reading and literacy, and are appropriate for information skills, reading, and technology lessons.
  • The Alabama Learning Exchange (ALEX) - Information Literacy lesson plans linked to learning objectives.
  • The National Education Association - has lesson plans for topics which require library research. You will need to use the search box for the archived lesson plans in order to find them.

  • Dictionary Guide Words - a grade 4 lesson plan by Anne Campbell and Carol Troutman.
  • Encyclopedia Practice for Grades 3 - 5 - a lesson plan by Gayle Robinson.
  • Encyclopedia Research Lesson Plan - Research on animals for grade 3. This is from Modesto City Schools and is in pdf format.
  • Beginning Biography Research - This is a unit for grades 2 - 3. It includes encyclopedia use and an introduction to note taking.
  • The World Almanac Learning Resources for Teachers and Parents - Many almanac activities are available here in pdf format. These are available for both the World Almanac and the World Almanac for Kids.
  • Hunt the Fact Monster - This is a joint project of Education World and FactMonster.com. It is a weekly reference activity with a sheet of questions which be answered using Fact Monster (or maybe even a book). There are questions sheets for grades 2 - 4 and for grades 4 - 8.
  • Mystery State Game - Students must determine the identity of the mystery state from the clues. Canadians note that there is also a game for territories and provinces.
  • The Atlas Game - Atlas activity for elementary grades.
  • "Me" Resource - In this egocentric activity, students create entries for themselves in the style of a dictionary, thesaurus, encyclopedia, atlas, newspaper, and magazine. For grades 3 - 8. From Education World.

  • Save the Library! - Unit for grades 3 - 8 from Education World. Students write an essay about saving their public library because of its important resources. Change "public" to "school", and they produce essays which you may turn in to the principal or school board.
  • Biography Maker - An online guide to the research and writing of a biography. By the Bellingham Public Schools.
